A solo performance
by Evelyn Glennie for Chamber Night!
A Chamber Night like no other! Dame Evelyn Glennie, the world-renowned percussionist, will present a solo performance for the entire evening.
Glennie is the first person ever to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist. As one of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today, she is constantly redefining the goals & expectations of percussion, and creating events of such vitality that they almost constitute a new type of performance.
Please note: only subscribers are guaranteed tickets for this event!
Touch the sound
“Of course, I just assumed that the world was full of solo percussionists. It was only when I studied music full time, in London, that I realized that the career of a full-time classical percussionist did not in fact exist. It had to be created.” And create it she did. Glennie has overcome formidable obstacles in her life, including that of profound deafness. “Hearing is a form of touch. I hear it through the body, by opening myself up. Sometimes it almost hits you in the face.” The photos are from Thomas Riedelsheimer’s documentary Touch the Sound.
