One of the 20th
century’s greatest works
A cycle of eleven songs on the subject of death, Shostakovich’s
14th symphony
was published in 1969. It is an important work, and a difficult one; any performance
of it is a significant event. Alain Trudel will conduct, with soprano Patricia
Green and baritone Robert Pomakov.
The 14th
Dmitri Shostakovich chose to work with texts by Federico García Lorca, Guillaume Apollinaire, Wilhelm Küchelbecker and Rainer Maria Rilke; they are set for soprano and bass soloists.
Our soloists
Mezzo-soprano Patricia Green is praised for her “warm creamy voice” and three-octave ease. Robert Pomakov has already earned attention for his unique voice and musicianship in opera, concert and recital.
Pre-concert event
Arrive by 6:45 pm for a Suzuki orchestra recital and a discussion of Shostakovich’s masterwork by Maestro Alain Trudel.
