Marc-André Hamelin
is “One of the most adventurous,
and certainly the most courageous,
pianists of recent times.”
That’s what International Piano Quarterly said about the legendary Marc-André Hamelin, and The New York Times described him as a “super virtuoso.” We call him the perfect way to end a fabulous season!
Hamelin will perform one of the few works by Alfred Schnittke written for piano. Discover its many, many layers with us…
Alfred Schnittke
Schnittke’s amazingly complex piano concerto is a fine companion piece to Shostakovich’s 14th symphony (presented October 23rd). They are considered the two great Russian composers of the twentieth century (even though Schnittke is German).
As a good book gets better with subsequent readings, the piano concerto gets better with each listening. If you don’t know the work, make this your first!
